Mulberry – London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017

Respect and rebellion were the twin poles at play Sunday afternoon in Johnny Coca’s women’s collection for summer. For all the divisiveness of the months surrounding Britain’s referendum on the European Union, otherwise known as Brexit, it was satisfying for once to see unity as the end goal. And how! Pulling the best of British uniforms of yore, the collection injected a tantalizing tension by juxtaposing otherwise incongruous elements such as the swinging movement of a kilt realized in a silk dress. “Classic, but unclassic,” proclaims the Mulberry Creative Director in the collection notes. “There’s always a reference to British heritage, but it’s about how we can use tradition, to make it feel modern. How we can break the rules, to make it new.” And new it was worn by a cast that included a handful of models from across the Next network including Lorena Maraschi, Lia Pavlova, Mila Ganame, Lineisy Montero and Odette Pavlova.
